Tai Pak

The Tai Pak Floating Restaurant in Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter is an iconic landmark, bearing witness to Hong Kong’s golden years. It once drew countless local and international visitors, dignitaries, and celebrities, making it one of the must‑visit attractions for travelers to Hong Kong.

Tai Pak’s lasting impression lies not only in its unique identity as a waterborne “Chinese cultural wonder”, but also in its fame through cinema and popular culture. In 1973, Bruce Lee’s film Enter the Dragon was shot here; in 1996, Stephen Chow’s The God of Cookery staged its climactic battle within its halls. Over the decades, Tai Pak welcomed many international figures, including Queen Elizabeth II, as well as stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Yul Brynner, William Holden, John Wayne, Kim Soo‑hyun, Jun Ji‑hyun, Paul Chun, Nancy Sit, and Sean Lau, among others.

Today, the once bustling and glamorous scene has paused, as if time itself has stood still for Tai Pak, awaiting restoration and revival to shine again with its captivating charm. Visitors can now join guided tours to explore the past and present of Tai Pak, enjoy the scenic beauty of Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, and experience the traditions and culture of the local fishing community.
